  • Day 1: Barry Barbarasch and Paul Baker from NASP GPR will present skills and strategies for effective advocacy and communication. Discuss talking points for February 12. Dinner and 3 hours of PD credit included.

    Day 2: Attend House Education Committee session. Four 1-hour training sessions available. Attend scheduled meetings with your Senator & Representative.

Description: 

You have the ability—and responsibility—to advocate for your role and services. Advocacy and communication is something we do in our daily roles yet, may feel outside your comfort zone; you can do it!  There are some fairly basic skills and strategies that contribute to effective advocacy and communication.  NASP and KAPS have the resources and are here to help!

Presenters:  Barry Barbarasch (NASP), Paul Baker (NASP/KAPS), Joe Bargione, Wayne Young (KASA), Rachel Belin (Prichard Committee)

NASP Domains: Preventative & responsive services (6), Legal, ethical, & professional practice (10)

Learning Objectives: 

Through lecture, interactive dialogue, and simulation activities participants will:

1.      Learn the basics of grassroots advocacy at the local, state, and national level.

2.      Understand the importance of school psychological services in education reform efforts.

3.      Learn the basic components of the legislative and regulatory process.

4.      Learn the key messages important to effective advocacy for school psychology.

If needed, registration may be cancelled by contacting paul.baker@martin.kyschools.us.   Cancellations made by 2/8/19 will be eligible for a full refund; cancellations after that date will be subject to a $10 cancellation fee (if the $50 registration fee was charged/paid).
